  The government insists that no al Qaeda members are operating in Iran and that it has been expelling suspected al Qaeda it catches inside Iran. However, it is believed the expelled men are low level al Qaeda, or just foreigners caught up in the Taliban fighting and fleeing to Iran for other reasons. Iran says it has arrested 150 suspected al Qaeda members at the Pakistan and Afghan borders. But it is believed that the number of al Qaeda fleeing to Iran were much larger.
