August 9, 2009:
Police are still waiting on DNA confirmation that a dead terrorism suspect is Noordin Mohammad Top. Even if the dead suspect was not Top, he was someone at the middle of several active terrorism plots. Evidence collected at the house where Noordin Mohammad Top was trapped and killed, indicated a larger organization and plots to assassinate senior government officials. It also believed that Top was in communication with Somalia based Islamic terrorists, who were recently found involved with planning attacks in Australia.
August 8, 2009: Police raided a house in the capital and found a car rigged to carry a large bomb, and believed to be part of a plan, conceived by Noordin Mohammad Top, to kill the president of Indonesia. Two men found at the scene were killed as they sought to detonate some bombs.
August 7, 2009: Counter-terrorism police were called in to deal with several terror suspects trapped in a Central Java house. The men refused to surrender, and died after several hours of gunfire. Police were surprised when they discovered one of the dead men appeared to be long sought Jemaah Islamiyah leader Noordin Mohammad Top.
August 1, 2009: Police called on Indonesian hackers to help track down a pro-terrorist web site that was apparently linked to the terrorists behind the recent attack on two hotels in the capital. The government lacks a Cyber War capability, and police were at a loss at how to chase down the apparent lead presented by this web site.
July 31, 2009: In Papua, police released all but one of the people they arrested for carrying out the gun attacks on people recently (which killed three). The one man still in custody is an unnamed mining company employee. Four of those released are named as witnesses.
