Thailand claimed that Aceh rebels were using rifles stolen from the Thai army. The weapons were among 300 stolen in southern Thailand last month. That raid was thought to have been committed by Islamic radicals. But some local Thais say the raiders were bandits. In any event, stolen weapons fetch a high price (over a thousand dollars) in Indonesia. The weapons have to be smuggled in. Recently, imported refrigerators were found to have assault rifles hidden inside.
