American SEC investigators discovered that a US mining company operating in Papua paid the Indonesian army $5.6 million for "security" last year. This payment, to most Indonesians, is just another example of an army shakedown.

In the Malukus, two bombs were found hidden on the roof of a mosque. The bombs were apparently stored there for future use against Christian targets.
