 Anti-terrorism operations in the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia have led to the arrest of dozens of local Islamic militants. Many of these men have identified Indonesian religious leader Abu Bakar Ba'asyir as the principal al Qaeda leader in the region. However, Ba'asyir  denies these accusations, despite his long, loud and public support for the Taliban and al Qaeda. The Indonesian government asserts that Ba'asyir is innocent.
