The government is going after a few al Qaeda members identified by evidence obtained by American troops in Afghanistan (and elsewhere). But the government refuses to go after local al Qaeda recruits not on the American list. The fear is that this would cause the local Islamic militants to turn against the government. Currently, Indonesian Moslem radicals are busy fighting Indonesian Christians. The government is trying to stop this fighting, with some success, but does not want outright war between the radical Moslem organizations and the army.
