In Aceh, police say they have killed a senior rebel leader (Daud Paneuk). The rebels deny this and say Paneuk is in exile in Sweden. However, this means little one way or the other, as Paneuk belongs to a splinter rebel group that believes in negotiation, not violence. Meanwhile, parliament passed a law granting Aceh more autonomy and a larger share of the local oil and gas revenue. There was no positive reaction to this in Aceh.
