In Irian Jaya, rebels released their last three hostages. There was no word on what the government promised to get the men released. It was announced that no ransom was paid. Police in the capital discovered 150 cardboard boxes of bomb making material. Also in the capital, the military affirmed its loyalty to the president. In Aceh, rebels killed a local official. The head of the 35 million member Nahdlatul Ulama (or NU, an Islamic organization) warned of unrest of the parliament continues trying to impeach president Wahid (a former head of the NU for 15 years.)
