The army will cut the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) from 7,000 to 5,000 men. Former dictator Suharto had increased the size of Kopassus from 3,000 to 7,000 between 1996 and 1999 as one of many measures meant to preserve Suharto's power. In Aceh, four more died in rebel violence.
