Irian Jaya rebels took hostage eleven lumber workers near the Papua New Guinea border. One of the hostages was a South Korean, who was the manager of the lumber operation. No word was received from the rebels regarding ransom demands. In the capital, a former Special Forces (Kopassus) denied accusations that he was behind bombings in the city.
