Budget pressures for the Australian Defense Force will ease somewhat as the government has agreed to increase defense spending by $500 million next year and by 3% annually for the next decade. This will relieve the shortages caused by operations like the one in Timor and the need to replace old weapons with modern ones.--Stephen V Cole
