The government has offered to resettle the anti-independence East Timor militiamen on Wetar island (just north of Timor.) The government is under a lot of pressure to disarm the militias and bring the criminals among them to justice. But this would be a bloody process, and not very popular among many Indonesians. Meanwhile, the eldest son of former dictator Suharto has been ordered arrested. Tommy Suharto is suspected of organizing and funding bombings and protests.
