The US Navy has resumed ties (joint exercises, training, etc.) with the Indonesian Navy for the first time since the Indonesian military was involved in the post-referendum violence on East Timor. Indonesian sailors and Marines were involved in the Cooperation Afloat 2000 readiness and training exercises, along with the US, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
