The military has agreed to withdraw it's 38 unelected representatives from the legislature by 2004.  In Sumatra, over a dozen were killed and hundreds injured in fighting over land claims. The Suharto government often took land from locals and gave it to cronies. Some of these land disputes have become active once more and people are willing to use violence to advance their claims.
