 While Islamic terrorism threatens the government in Pakistan, opium and heroin threaten the country itself. It's estimated that there are as many as six million drug addicts, made possible because most of the world's opium comes from neighbor Afghanistan. The drug addiction actually feeds the Islamic radicalism by creating a climate of desperation that makes extremism look attractive. Ironically, Islamic radicals have been found using drugs to enhance the enthusiasm of their warriors. But among the general population, the drug addiction hurts the economy and social cohesion.
