In Pakistan, negotiations with 40 tribal elders from South Waziristan, along the Afghan border, have failed to get cooperation from all the tribes thought to be harboring "foreigners" (members of al Qaeda.) The Pakistani government says it has proof that some of these foreigners, and their tribal supporters, have been involved in terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, and attacks on Pakistani government officials. The situation in South Waziristan is further complicated by disputes between some of the tribes.

The United States has delivered two more Bell 412 helicopters to Pakistan Army, for use in patrolling the Afghan border.

The banned People's War Group (PWG), a Maoist rebel group active in northern India, is suffering internal problems, and this erupted in a gun battle today, which left two dead. One of the victims was a PWG member suspected of being a police informer.
