  In Kashmir, rebels attacked Hindu shrines in an attempt to disrupt an annual pilgrimage. At least seven civilians were killed. The Islamic rebels are determined to drive all non-Moslems out of Kashmir. 

The Indian government says that infiltrations from Pakistan are down, partly because fewer rebels are coming across, and partly because Indian security measures on their side of the border are more effective at detecting and stopping infiltrators.
