Artillery fire across the Line of Control left an Indian civilian dead. 

In Gujarat, India, police broke up a rally by radical Hindus. The rally had been refused a permit. The local government has vowed to prevent any more religious massacres as occurred last year when Hindu and Moslem radicals battled each other and left over a thousand (mostly Moslems) dead.

In Kashmir, rebel violence left three dead.
