The Afghan government insists that Taliban fighters are based in western Pakistan and organizing armed attacks in Afghanistan. This puts the Pakistan government in a difficult position. The Pushtun tribes in western Pakistan resist any government control and must be dealt with using a combination of bribes and brute force. If the Taliban begin operating from Pakistani bases, the government will be forced to do something about it. While many Pakistanis back Islamic causes (Palestine and Kashmir), far fewer favor tribal separatism.

Pakistan has arrested 422 suspected al Qaeda member since September, 2001. FBI and CIA communications experts assist Pakistani police in tracking down al Qaeda members using satellite phones or the internet to communicate.

Police killed two Islamic militants in the Indian capital, as the two planned to shoot shoppers in a mall.

In Kashmir, two rebels died when they attempted to attack an army camp.
