Pakistan said shelling back and forth across the Kashmir line of control had killed 47 civilians and injured 118 in the last three months. These were on the Pakistani side, there has been no report of the losses on the Indian side..

September 16; Most Moslem voters in Kashmir did not vote due to the Moslem separatist threats of violence. Over a dozen people have been killed as the separatists proved they were not bluffing.

September 15; India has moved sixty battalions of troops into Kashmir, in response to a terrorism offensive by Moslem militants. There are elections taking place throughout September and the militants are determined to intimidate the population into not taking part.

September 10; Five people were killed in Moslem separatist violence. Four of the dead were militants, the other a local politician.

September 9; Eighteen people were killed and 13 injured in voting related violence in Kashmir.

September 9; India has opened negotiations with Bofors of Sweden for desperately needed spare parts for the FH77 field howitzers. The Indians had banned Bofors from doing business after charges that Bofors had bribed Indian officials to get the original FH77 contract.--Stephen V Cole
