A senior official of FARC, Ovidio Palmera, also known as Simon Trinidad, was captured in neighboring Ecuador. Trinidad, a former banker and FARC's chief financial officer, was in Ecuador to get treatment for prostate cancer. FARC is run by a committee of seven senior officials, and Trinidad is one of those. Ecuador agreed to immediately extradite Trinidad to Colombia.
