Troops and leftist (FARC and ELN) rebels clashed in the city of Medellin, leaving nine dead and 33 wounded. Meanwhile, Brazil has sent 4,000 troops to it's Colombian border to search for drug operations. Some 450 kilometers northeast of the capital, ELN rebels kidnapped 39 people, but within an hour an anti-kidnapping team caught up with the group, killed one of the rebels and rescued the hostages.
