EN-US;mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"> A recent opinion survey showed that only five percent of the population believe that continued peace talks with rebels will be successful. Civilians are becoming increasingly hostile to the rebels. During the rebel New Year's eve attacks, unarmed civilians in three province faced down the rebels. The civilians were the poor people the rebels say they represent, as at least in these cases, the rebels backed off.
