In the capital, police say they have destroyed 203 criminal gangs in the past year, via the arrest of over 1,200 criminals (60 percent of them under age 30.) Many members of the gangs were not arrested, either because they could not be caught, or not enough evidence was available. The large number of criminal organizations is a result of the booming economy, and tradition of corruption in the country. This extends to the military, where everything is still for sale. While there are occasional news stories about this corruption, most of the prosecutions are kept quiet. Corruption in the military, and the government in general, is not something officials like to see in the news.
