In another communiqu, the Angolan government implied that it has forces inside Namibia. The Angolan government said that its troops had fired rockets at UNITA rebels from "inside Namibia." For its part, the Namibian government has given Angola permission to operate Angolan regular forces in Namibians northern Kavango region. Another report, however, said the Angolans were firing heavy mortars from Namibia at UNITA positions in southern Angola.

The Angolan government is beginning to tout its success against UNITA. One senior Angolan government (MPLA) general estimated that as a result of the four-month long government offensive "UNITA is 80 percent destroyed." The government also confirmed that its forces had captured the town of Calai, 1000 kilometers southeast of Luanda.
