The siege of Malanje, now ten months old, has a quarter of the 200,000 people trapped in the city starving. If the siege is not lifted soon, thousands will perish. UNITA troops block the roads most of the time, and fire on aircraft trying to fly aid in. Some food gets through, but not enough to prevent malnutrition and, increasingly, starvation.
