The government has ordered 42 Mi-171 helicopters, equipped for night operations (night vision goggles and better navigational systems.) Algeria got them at the bargain price of $4.3 million each. The choppers are a military version of the M-8  design, which has been in service for several decades, but has been continually upgraded. It's basically a passenger helicopter that is often armed. Roughly equal to the American UH-1 Huey, but a bit larger.
