Some 30,000 Berbers demonstrated against the government in the majority Berber city of Bouira. The demonstration was organized by tribal elders and chiefs. Tribal organizations are still strong among the Berbers, who trace their tribal organizations back thousands of years. Meanwhile, rebels killed seven civilians 160 kilometers southwest of the capital.
