The Algerian government, fearful of a UN intervention, have denounced recent UN announcements about how traditional notions of sovereignty may have to be dispensed with when fundamental rights of people were at stake. Meanwhile, police clashed with fifty militants, killing seventeen 360 kilometers southwest of the capital. Border guards seized 97 pounds of explosives that was being smuggled into the country from Morocco.
