A terrorist bombing attack killed 14 and wounded many others.

August 18; Six more were killed and one injured in bomb and shooting attacks. Abdelmadjid Dichou, emir of the Salafist Group for the Gospel and the Struggle (GSPC), was assasinated by members of his group during an internal power struggle. The former leader of the group, Hassan Hattab, is now back in charge..

August 16; Bomb and gun attacks by Islamic fundamentalists killed nine people and injured four in several incidents. In the first half of August, some one hundred people have been killed, and 150 injured in Islamic fundamentalist attacks. Most of the victims have been civilians, with only 27 soldiers killed.
