After several weeks of relative quiet, the Taliban have increased activity again. Some 27 people, mostly civilians, have died in the south and east in the last three days. The Taliban attacks are mainly directed at terrorizing civilians and government officials to cooperate with them, while attacks on foreign aid workers are meant to stop reconstruction projects. The Taliban have been avoiding contact with coalition and Afghan troops.
