After ten years of boarding party duty, the armed American sailors performing this dangerous task are finally getting hazardous duty pay for it. If sailors are officially assigned to boarding party duty (or operating small boats that carry the party), and make at least three boarding a month, they qualify for an extra $150 a month. Boarding parties are used in anti-drug and anti-terror operations, but the largest single use was in the Persian Gulf during the twelve year embargo of Iraq.
