: Russian Armed Forces Chief- of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin issued a guideline on 1 September to restore the post of political commissar deputy commanders in armies and corps. Previously, these formations had only political work chiefs. Lieutenant General Nikolai Reznik, chief of the Armed Forces political work department, would handle the expansion, to take effect in early 2003. - Adam Geibel
