The U.S. Navy is catching up in the information technology department. A command ship has been equipped with a "knowledge wall;" an array of monitors showing the status of task force ships, aircraft and amphibious maps. In addition to the maps and data, the system can also support teleconferencing. Email from ships and subs is becoming standard, and soon all sailors will be issued an email address. Damage control exercises now include how to deal with attacks to the ships information systems.
