Eight European nations (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK) have notified the UN that they have destroyed 3.5 million surplus infantry weapons. The UN had asked all member states to destroy surplus rifles, pistols, and machineguns rather than see them end up in the hands of warring factions or criminal syndicates.--Stephen V Cole
