Electronic Weapons: January 12, 2002

The US has (after two years of refusal) agreed to allow Greece to equip its fleet of fifty F-16C52s with Israeli electronic warfare systems. The US agreed after the Israelis brought Raytheon into the project as a partner. The Israeli system, by Elisra, includes four radar-warning receivers, four heat-detecting missile warning sensors, a radar jammer, and two countermeasures (chaff and flare) dispensers. Israel already uses the same system on its F-15Is and is installing it on their F-16Is.--Stephen V Cole
