A World War II idea, free books for the troops, is being revived by publishers Hyperion, Simon & Schuster, and Dover Publications. At least 100,000 copies of four titles ("Medal of Honor: Profiles of America's Military Heroes from the Civil War to the Present," "Henry V," "The Art of War," "War letters: Extraordinary Correspondence from American Wars") will be distributed free to American troops serving overseas. From 1943 to 1947, some 123 million books (1,300 titles) were distributed. During that period, over six million American troops were overseas, compared to about 250,000 today. The paperback books are designed to fit easily in the pockets on work uniforms. Many of the troops, however, would probably prefer free hand held games (like Gameboy.)
