Chile has ordered ten F-16C/Ds from the US for $500 million with deliveries in 2005-2006. The Mirage-5s, AT-37 Dragonflies, and Mirage-50s are all but retired and the few that remain are hard to maintain and nearly worn out. The actual combat strength consists of fifteen F-5E Tiger IIs and a handful of Spanish A-36 trainers capable of light attack missions. There are plans to buy another 24 F-16s to replace the last of the Mirages and the a dozen more to replace the F-5E interceptors in 2008. --Stephen V Cole
