Triviata
- Fully 61 of the 164 men in the West Point Class of 1915 attained general's rank, including two generals of the army, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Omar Bradley, plus two generals, seven lieutenant generals, and 50 lowly major generals and brigadier generals, earning them the collective nickname "The class that stars fell on."
- During the late nineteenth century it was not unusual for lieutenants in the Chilean Army to have had 45 or more years in grade.
- Undoubtedly the most famous officer of the Hampshire Grenadiers, a British militia regiment that served during the Seven Years' War, was Capt Edward Gibbon, albeit that he is rather reputed less as a soldier than as the author of the monumental The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
- An estimated 35 million Jerry cans were in use by the U.S. Army in northwestern Europe by the end of World War II.
- Of 1,331 engagements on land during the American Revolution, more took place in New Jersey than in any other state, 238 (17.8%), with New York a close second at 228 (17.0%).
- By some estimates the cost of killing one North Korean soldier or Chinese Communist "Volunteer" during the Korean War was about $1,000,000.
