Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com) and Hussar Games (www.hussargames.com)
announced that they have released an updated demo version of their American
Revolutionary War turn-based strategy game, For Liberty!. This upgraded demo is
still completely free for gamers who want to try their hand at this addicting
musket-toting
tactical/operational-level blend.
The latest version of the For Liberty! demo provides a trove of
improvements and added features. For the tactical-level strategy fans who love
the smell of musket powder in the morning, a helpful minimap was added to
tactical battles. As another improvement to the tactical aspect of For Liberty!, the battle terrain is more varied now,
especially in open terrain hexes. Also, terrain tiles can now be partially
off-map, resulting in more realistic and varied battlefields. To top off these
tactical improvements, the fatigue system has also been
reworked.
A variety of changes and
improvements to the already painstakingly realistic ruleset were also made to
the updated For Liberty! demo.
The infantry firing arc is now restricted to 30 degrees in tactical battles when
using the Advanced ruleset. In addition, the influence system tweaked a bit
more, as transferring units now only requires influence when moving the unit
from an influential leader.
>The updated demo, like its original,
features a hypothetical southern campaign in 1780 where you must stop the
raiding Indians and then fight a full British brigade. Players will be pleased
with the level of depth the gameplay goes into for this demo, as tactical
battles are fully playable too.
For Liberty! is a turn-based
strategy game covering the American Revolutionary War from 1775 – 1783 and the
Hungarian Rakoczi Independence War which was the eastern theater of the War of
Spanish Succession from 1703 to 1711. For
Liberty!
features a fantastically dynamic level of complexity where you can
command as many or as few of your forces as you want. Commands for the 16
different unit types of 5 nations include attack, recon, retreat, train, rest,
pillage, siege enemy forts, fortify important locations. And on the other side
of these battles for power, political decisions and foreign aid are simulated by
an influence system that you can use to change the strategic
situation.
