A Unique Card Game
The Battlelines™ series of card games allow players to recreate the epic struggles of World War II. Each player uses a deck of cards to represent the troops of an historical formation about the size of a division. A third deck, the Operation deck, is used to create a series of battles using Mission and Location cards. Points are scored for achieving Mission objectives and destroying enemy troops. A typical 100 point Operation can be played in about an hour.
Lacking the strength to advance along the entire front in 1942, the Nazis launched "Operation Blue" along the Southern portion of the vast Russian Front. To man the long frontlines and furnish the numbers for the 1942 offensive, over 30 Romanian, Hungarian, and Italian divisions were included in the Axis forces massed in the South.
Army Group B met the summer offensive aimed at Kharkov consuming the strength of Southwest Front in a series of mobile defenses and counter attacks. Sixth Army and 4th Panzer Army cleared the Don Bend west of the Chir river and jumped off toward Stalingrad making rapid progress through the weakened Soviet forces. However, every mile gained lengthened the Axis lines, especially as the attacking forces split, with one spearhead aimed at the city of Stalingrad along the Volga and the other swinging far to the south to occupy the oil-producing centers in the Caucasus region.
The advance on Stalingrad went well, with Axis forces winning battle after battle. They advanced over miles of nearly empty steppes until, by August, they reached the outskirts of Stalingrad.
Recreate this historic operation using the 9th Panzer DIvision and 18th Tank Corps in the game "Battlelines: Drive on Stalingrad."
