You Don't Need Islam to Burn Down the Border

July 18, 2006: Islamic radicals from Indonesia have been spotted in the south, and are believed to have aided in the formation of a more militant faction of the Islamic terrorists.

July 17, 2006: Smuggling and gang activity is a problem along the northern borders as well. In addition to the movement of drugs and illegal migrants, there is also illegal logging. No Islamic terrorists, but the smuggling and drug gangs are armed and willing to fight. So the army is increasing its forces, and patrols, in the north.

July 14, 2006: Burma (Myanmar) defused a tense situation by apologizing for firing on a Thai military helicopter last week. Apparently, a Burmese soldier mistakenly believed a Thai supply helicopter, flying along the border in Thai territory, had crossed the border. The Burmese soldier opened fire, causing slight damage, but almost sparking another border skirmish.
