More reports of tribal warfare in Sudan. At least two-dozen people have died in fighting in three small towns in West Darfur state. The Khartoum government sources quoted did not elaborate on the cause of the tribal struggles. Meanwhile, the SPLA offensive continues. On August 29, the SPLA claimed its forces operating in the Bahr el-Ghazal region had seized a "strategic bridge" over the Kiir River. The SPLA spokesman claimed that three Khartoum government brigades (loaded on three troop trains) are now trapped in the town of Meriam. The SPLA says it controls the key bridge over the Lol River to the north, thus trapping the Khartoum government forces.
