The Ukrainian Supreme Court unexpectedly declared the recent elections corrupt and invalid. The court ordered the presidential election to be run again. The Soviet era judges were selected for their tendency to support the government in power, not the law. But idealism does not always fade with age. Seeing a chance to break the cycle of corruption in Ukrainian government, the judges called as they saw it. Their ruling was unusually blunt, leaving the government no choice but to run new elections.
