In Chechnya, troops and gunships attacked rebels bases. Several dozen rebels were killed, but the rebels claimed that 30 Russian soldiers killed and only three rebels. Elsewhere, a soldier was killed in an ambush. A rebel weapons cache was seized. It contained 6,000 bullets, 12 pounds of explosives, 150 grenades, 70 gasoline bombs and 12 assault rifles. On the Ingushetia border, a dozen rebels made their way past border guards and out of Chechnya.
