Russia has moved seven Tu-95 bombers and four IL-78 Midas tankers to bases in the Arctic. The US expressed concern that the Russians could begin probing US and Canadian air defenses again as they did in the Cold War, but the Russians insist that the move is intended to provide pilots with training in flying in Arctic conditions.--Stephen V Cole
