The NPA rebels declared a temporary truce for today and tomorrow (for All Saints Day). The NPA is under military pressure in the countryside, and internal pressure from different factions within the group. The NPA has been fighting to establish a communist dictatorship in the Philippines since the late 1960s, without much effect. The collapse of the Soviet Union was a major blow, as was the NPA being declared an international terrorist organization recently. Some NPA members want to make peace, others want to fight on.
