  With it's diamond trade disrupted by UN sanctions, Liberia has turned to timber exports. Chinese and French firms are buying millions of dollars of prime timber a month. Even many in the Liberian government are appalled at the speed and extent of the logging, which goes after valuable types of trees quickly before such operations are declared illegal.
