Strange Days In Syria

September 25, 2007:  Strange days in Syria. Everyone is talking about the September 6 Israeli raid into Syria, but no one is admitting anything. Syria has complained about Israeli aggression, as has North Korea. Syria has been a customer for North Korean weapons, including ballistic missiles, for decades. The rumors and leaks indicate that someone, perhaps the CIA or NSA, discovered North Korean nuclear weapons technology in Syria. Israeli commandoes raided the compound where the nuclear weapons work was being done, took radioactive material, and analysis (all nuclear material has a unique chemical "fingerprint") determined it was North Korea. Israeli jets them bombed the compound. Why all the reluctance to release details? No one is saying, and the speculation, as one would expect, is all over the lot. Interestingly, the Arab press was largely silent on this one. This was understandable, as Syrian is seen as a puppet of Iran, and thus a traitor to the Arab world.

September 21, 2007: For days of counter-terror operations resulted in 49 arrests and six deaths. One of the prisoners is a senior Hamas leader, and several others were planning suicide bombing attacks inside Israel. A suicide belt was found in Tel Aviv, and the network that got it there was broken up.

September 20, 2007: Israel made it official, and admitted that Gaza was "hostile territory." Terrorist group Hamas runs Gaza, and daily there are attacks, or attempts, against Israel. There will now be more restrictions on what is allowed into Gaza, which is becoming a large prison camp.

September 19, 2007: An Israeli politician admitted that, yes, there was an attack on Syria two  weeks ago. But no details were released, and the leaker, former prime minister Netanyahu, was condemned by other government officials for releasing classified information.

In Lebanon, another anti-Syrian politician was assassinated, the eighth such killing in the last two years.
