The US Marine Corps is sending at least one division to the Persian Gulf. This, plus British plans to send a Royal Marine Commando brigade, indicate that US and British marines would use helicopters and amphibious vehicles to quickly seize the southern city of Basra. The US Marines have sufficient armored vehicles and motor transport to join an advance on Baghdad.
